Trying to paint for the first time since the 90's
This first one is a really crappy picture (blurry and light reflection being a problem) but this is just so you can get a general idea of my first painting in forever. It looks much better in real life, of course. Still, there are many things about it that didn't turn out right. But hey, it turned out better than I expected it too, and I learned a lot in the process.
This second painting is frustrating me. It isn't finished, of course, but I'm having a hard time finishing it because I hate it. I'm still working on it, though, and will finish it whether I like the painting or not. There's a light reflection making a big glow around the head, but there's no sense in working for a great photo when the painting isn't even done yet.

I think they both look pretty good.
They suck, but for my first paintings in so long, I expected them to be much worse. I'm rather pleased that I could do even this well after having gone paintless for so long.
It's the stars that you hate, right? There's something wrong with the stars.
Those are blossoms. I haven't finished the kimono yet, though. I haven't decided what all to put on it. I've barely even started on the obi. The blossoms can be fixed, though. The whole picture looks kinda gay to me. Some floating chick.... boring. Also, I will change the hair. ButThe main things I hate about this painting is the theme/subject and the fact that the canvas it's on has been re-used so many times that there are thick textures in the surface that screw with the image. A new canvas is intimidating, though. A fairly small canvas costs twenty bucks, and a big one (I like to paint big) is just way too much.
Now... how the hell do I photograph these things? No matter what I do, they reflect too much light. Of course, I haven't applied any varnish. Would a matte spray varnish help that? Also, would it dull the image any? Any artists out there who would know?
I don't know what I'm doing.
Ta he he he
Weeeee!
Isn't life fun when you can dive in without knowing what you're doing and just play in the mud until you figure it out?
I feel kinda like a kid. I'm covered head to toe in paint, too. I am WAY too freakin messy. But hey... I guess when I get into my art, I do so literally as well as figuratively.
I wish it weren't so late. I was thinking of going to Richos. :(
Maybe I'll go check out Mac's (when I'm done painting and have showered) and see if anyone I know is there.
Rish O's was a sausage fest as usual. You should have some in all covered in paint. Then we could have rolled you all over the wall in the special people section and you'd have your own permanent display there.
All over Amy's fancy decorating and Roger's Che posters?
I'm thinking that would not go over too well. :)
Actually, I always wanted to get a huge canvas and paint the whole thing with my hands and hair (when I had long hair), but I'd probably get a ton of hair stuck in the paint. I'd never get all the paint out of my hair either, but I could have just twisted it into multi-colored dreads.
Hey... since I have this constant pattern (I grow my hair out long, then when I get tired of it I cut it off) I think I'll do that next time it gets long. The paint and dreads will ruin my hair, though, which means I won't get to donate it to the wig people.
I like them both actually, especially considering they are pieces that are working out the kinks after a long absence.
